Alberta A. Hicks, 91, of Fairview Heights, Illinois died Saturday, July 13, 2013 at St. Paul's Home in Belleville, Illinois. She was born October 24, 1921 in Millstadt, Illinois, the daughter of Leo and Rosa ( Kolmer ) Dannehold. She married Emmett L. Hicks in 1941 and he preceded her in death in March of 2008.
She is survived by two daughters Carol (George) Fishbein, Decatur, Illinois, Patricia (David) Galicia, Collinsville, Illinois, one son Barry (Chris) Hicks, Mundelein, Illinois; three daughters-in-law Janet, Angela, and Elaine; seven grandchildren Daniel, Renee', Dianna, Ryan, Zachary, Bailey, and Nicholas; a sister Rosalie and a brother Harold.
Alberta was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and three sons, Ronald, David, and Randy, two brothers, Warren and Eugene, and two sisters, Kathleen and Evelyn.
Alberta was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her six children (her pride and joy) became responsible adults due to her strong faith in God and her moral standards and expectations. Her home was her comfort; she could drive a nail and saw a board with ease as many home improvement projects were done. Weeds were not allowed in her yard and flower beds. She inspired her children to always strive for the best and to leave the world just a little better. Her recipe for homemade ketchup, always fresh and always spicy, will live on.
