Alice Mae Mitchell

Alice was born January 11, 1936 in Pinckneyville IL to Raymond J. and Laura Evelyn (Pierie) Gill; they preceded her in death.

She married Jerry Joseph Mitchell and they later divorced. For 37 years, Alice and Ben Meyers were close friends and companions, before his passing.

Alice was the devoted mother to eight children, Beverly (Dan) Jacobs, Faron Mitchell, Jackie Rae, Jerry Dennis, Rodney Joseph, Guy Mitchell, Deborah Athmer and Becky Sutton. She has numerous loving grandchildren great-grandchildren, including Kristopher (Kayla) Bechtold and Samantha Bryan, who is expecting Alice’s great-granddaughter this year. Family also includes son-in-law, Daryl Athmer and siblings who preceded her in death; sister, Dee Dee and her half-brother, William “Bill” Winkelman.

Alice worked in housekeeping at Belleville Memorial Hospital for many years. She also worked in numerous nursing homes in the area. She loved to bake, quilt, and crochet. She was a talented artist who enjoyed drawing, painting and sharing her talents with others to enjoy. Her favorite board game was Trouble and it brought years of fun memories to her and her family. Alice will truly be missed by all who knew and loved her.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 19, 2022 at 11:00 AM with a visitation an hour prior to the service. Cremation rites have been accorded.
