

Clarence Edward “Sonny” Houston III, 79, of Collinsville, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family, Friday, August 11, 2023 after a five year battle with Parkinson’s Disease. Sonny was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Sonny was born October 12, 1943 in Memphis, TN, the beloved son of Clarence Edward “Buddy” and Alice Carolyn (Craddock) Houston.
Sonny was an exceptional man and a big kid at heart. He had an unparalleled bond with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His legacy is carried on through them. It was his dedication to his faith, his wife and his children that inspired him to be the man he was.
Sonny and Karen had the opportunity to travel extensively, visiting family and many countries throughout the world. Often going along with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Karen (Bovinette) Houston; daughters, Debbie (Doug) Lenny, Vicki (Tai) Bright and son, Edward (Barb) Houston; ten grandchildren, twenty-one and a half great-grandchildren; his beloved mother, Alice Carolyn Eilers; sisters, Stephanie Nowak and Gloria Ridgway; brothers, Steven Houston and Tony (Linda) Houston; many nieces, nephews and cousin, loving each one immensely. Sonny is preceded in death by his father; brother, Joseph M. Houston; brother-in-laws, Byron Nowak and Earl Ridgway and sister-in-law, Brenda Houston.
A visitation for Sonny will be held on Friday, August 18, 2023 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm in Lake View Funeral Home, 5000 N. Illinois St., Fairview Heights, IL 62208. A second visitation will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2023 from 10:00am – 10:45am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 9827 Bunkum Rd., Fairview Heights, IL 62208 with a funeral service to follow at 11:00am. Interment will be held in Lake View Memorial Gardens.
