Dennis was a devoted family man and obtained a dedicated work ethic. He retired from U.S. Steel (Granite City Steel) after almost 42 years, starting off as a Laborer, then Switchmen, then Engineer, and finally a Crane Operator. He married the love of his life, Mary Westlake, on July 13, 1973, at First Church of Nazarene, in Collinsville IL. This beautiful union brought three children, and a life time of wonderful memories.
Throughout his years Dennis acquired many talents. He had a niche for working on automobiles, without having to ever visit a mechanic. He also enjoyed golfing, skiing, boating, fishing, and playing baseball and basketball with his grandchildren. His most memorable pastime was bowling. He was an avid bowler for all of his life and enjoyed the sport along with teaching his wife and family to bowl as well. Dennis was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend. He will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by both parents: Joseph E. and Louise A. (Walden) Toupnot.
Surviving him are his loving wife of 45 years, Mary (Westlake) Toupnot, of Collinsville, IL, his children: Sarah Toupnot, Carla (Christopher) Buckman, and Shaun Toupnot, his grandchildren: Austin Toupnot, Cristle Buckman, Cole Buckman, Caici Buckman, Carin’ Buckman, and Catherine Buckman, siblings: Karen (Geoff) Groves, Bryan (Kimberly) Zuppiger, and Cynthia Toupnot, aunts: Patricia (Richard) Walton and Susan Nelson, and a number of dear nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
