

George Robert Hass, 84, of Mascoutah, IL, passed away on Sunday, May 7th, 2023. He was born on March 11, 1939 in Queens, NY to Elizabeth and Fred Hass. George attended Grover Cleveland High School and graduated in the class of 1956. He later went into the United States Navy and served as an Aviation Machinist from 1956 – 1960.
George then began his career in the airline industry, working for Pan American Airlines at JFK Airport in New York as an aviation mechanic, and later in a variety of positions at various airports and the Illinois Power Company. George married Peggy Schaeffer on December 20th, 1958, and had 3 children, Kelly, Susan and Robb. George had numerous hobbies including umpiring and refereeing basketball, volleyball, baseball and softball, as well as hunting, fishing and playing golf. He was also an avid dancer and a big fan of the New York Yankees and Giants.
George will always be remembered for his love of his family, all things New York, and a personality that made everyone he met an instant friend. He was preceded in death by his father, Fred, his mother, Elizabeth, and his sister, Helen. George is survived by his wife Peggy, his three children, six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
In lieu of a funeral service, the family will be hosting a celebration of life at a later date.

George is survived by his loving family, including, his children: Kelly (Mark) Couleas, Susan (Jeff) Bean and Robb (Pam) Hass; Grandchildren: Cullan (Amber) Couleas, Brandy (Wes) Cullen, Lexi Bean, Corynne Bean, Ellie (Zack) Wooldridge and Ian Hass; Great-Grandchildren: Cash, Nace and Sloane Couleas; Lankin and WillaMae Cullen; and numerous nieces & nephews.
