Joseph "Joe" William Marti, age 77, of Troy, Illinois passed away on Friday, September 8, 2023. He was born April 2, 1946 in St. Louis, MO to Raymond "Red" and Margaret Marti. Born the second child of seven, Joe was a carefree spirit full of smiles and laughter. Especially while riding his horse "Trinket" all through his childhood.
He married his high school sweetheart, Sandra (Poehlmann), and had 5 sons, Joe Jr. (Susan), Greg (Stacey), Ken, Mark and Nathan (Katie). After a short stint working with his uncle in the Concrete Finishers Union, he went to work as a Beer Truck Driver for Teamsters Local 133, following his Father's footsteps, when of age. Later, Joe became the business agent for the Beer Drivers Union, working 30 plus years of hard labor and staunch union negotiations for beer drivers rights. Following his father's footsteps, his son, Joe Jr. himself, is just now retiring from beer drivers Local 133 after 35 years of service.
Joe went on to marry the love of his life and best friend, Misty (Davis) and was blessed with two more sons, Keith and Joedy Ray, (Airmen...a "Proud Dad" moment for Joe.) Taking early retirement, he then created and owned a successful Car Dealership, Borderline. With Misty at his side and many family members, Borderline thrived for many years. 10s of 1000s of cars sold and more memories and stories for 2 lifetimes. Joe’s son, Greg, is also a highly successful dealership owner for many years now. He was cherished, faithful, admired, generous, soft hearted, kind, a staunch protector and excellent provider. Joe always helped those in need. Including stray dogs! Even though he had a smooth swagger and laid back personality, he was a Presence. Easily and always the kindest and most patient person in the room. And most handsome! He leaves behind a Legacy of 7 sons, 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Joe will truly and deeply be missed by all who knew and loved him. MAY HE REST IN PEACE.
Funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 14, 2023 at 1:00pm in Lake View Funeral Home, 5000 N. Illinois St., Fairview Heights, IL 62208 with visitation from 11:00am until time of service. Interment to follow in Lake View Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions can be made to the family.
