Lucy Ellen Kennedy, of Fairview Heights, Illinois passed away Saturday January 17th, 2026, at the age of 91. She was born to Charles and Mary (Stuart) Dartt on September 17th, 1934, in East St. Louis, Illinois
Lucy was preceded in death by her mother and father, Charles and Mary (Stuart) Dartt, sister Mary Tobin, and son Michael Kennedy.
Lucy is survived by her daughter, Patty (Howard) Vogt, Son’s: Thomas (Kathy) Kennedy, Tim Kennedy, Joe Kennedy, David Kennedy, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many other dear family members and loved ones.
Lucy spent her entire life taking care of others. Her kindness knew no end, as she didn’t know a stranger. She often would help those in need, even offering a homeless man a sandwich, when all she had to offer was bread and peanut butter. Lucy’s warmth towards others started at a young age when she would care for her siblings growing up while also in high school. After graduating Lucy started a family of her own, having six children.
Lucy’s home was a beacon of safety to anyone who needed shelter. She often would take in her children’s friends if they needed a place to stay for a while. Lucy’s home was always filled with people, as she was always putting the needs of other above her own. Often, she would have three crockpots going to provide dinner to those whom depended on her.
Lucy loved to provide for those around her, she loved to cook, but baking was her favorite. She was known for her cookies, as she could make “gazillions” of them in a short time, the kids remember getting to take two cookies as an after-dinner treat. Lucy also had a passion for sewing; she often would make clothing for the children while they were growing up.
Lucy was a kind and loving soul, her children, when thinking of her would say, “If she won the lottery, she would still have nothing, as she would give it all away.”
Lucy will be greatly missed by all who had the honor to know and love her.
