Marilyn Westerfield, nee Jones, along with her husband Jim Westerfield, opened the Westerfield House Inn and Restaurant in 1984 and ran a successful business until their retirement in 2002. While Jim was the showman, Marilyn was the quiet chef who preferred to stay out of the spotlight and enjoyed watching Jim shine in front of their guests.
After retiring, Marilyn continued her love of culinary arts. She loved to try out new recipes and new foods. She was an avid reader, loved to watch cooking shows, arts and crafts, and quilting. She cared deeply for others and believed in fairness, honesty and loyalty. Most of all, she loved her family and carried on the traditions of her mother, Opal, in keeping the family together and celebrating every birthday and holiday.
Marilyn, whose gentle spirit touched everyone she met, died peacefully in her sleep the morning of Saturday, May 2nd. True to her nature, her wishes were to be cremated and quietly placed with Jim at Lakeview Memorial Gardens in Swansea, IL. Jim and Marilyn had been married for over 55 years when Jim had passed in 2013.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Neil W. and Opal A. Jones, nee Kite.
Surviving are her son, Larry (Shannon) Westerfield; grandchildren, Kurt (Jennifer) Westerfield; Brittany (Mike) Hornung; and Karissa (Christopher Roles) Anderson; her great grandchildren, Keaton, Madison, Fiona, and Oscar; her sister Charlotte Crider; nieces, Julie (Tim) Kaiping and Lori (Kim) Crider.
