He was proceeded in death by his wife Dorothy (Bradley) Nelson, his parents, his sister Patricia Porath and grandson Russell Lee Elms.

He is survived by children Larry (Barbara) Elms of Highland, IL, Rita (Eric) Ehmke of Caseyville, IL, Ronnie (Cindy) Elms of Crandall, TX, a Brother Robert (Paulette) Nelson of Irving TX, and Aunt Jeanette Auer of Swansea IL; his grandchildren Gayle Fisher of Highland, IL, Lisa (Mark) Woodruff of Brentwood, TN, Chris (Stacy) Wilson of Caseyville, IL, Brent Wilson of Caseyville, IL, Eric Wilson (Partner Nicole Fitzgibbons) of Caseyville, IL, Joey (Rachael) Elms of Scurry, TX, Amber (John) Garvin of Crandall, TX, Dawn (Brian) Porter of Troy, MO, Eric Ehmke of Troy, MO, Sarah (Matt) Voglesang of Warrenton, MO; 24 great grandchildren, and beloved sister-in-laws, and brother-in-laws in Arkansas and numerous nieces and nephews.

Richard loved golfing, fishing, baseball, and his family. He was an engineer by trade and retired from Monsanto.

Visitation will be Saturday, August 31st, 2019 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Lake View Funeral Home in Fairview Heights, IL. Funeral will be Saturday, August 31st, 2019 at 1 p.m. at Lake View Funeral Home Fairview Heights, IL. Interment will follow at Lake View Memorial Gardens Fairview Heights, IL.
