Bob was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and retired from civil service. He was a member of the O’Fallon United Church of Christ where he was a bookkeeper for seven years and a past-president of the consistory. Bob loved umpiring, especially interacting with the kids.
Preceding him in death were parents, Carroll and Gladys, nee Smith, Sommer.
He is survived by his loving wife, Margie, nee Schildknecht, Sommer; his children, Susan Sommer, Elizabeth (Brian) Lawinger, and Steve (Brandy) Sommer; 8 grandchildren, Megan, Tucker, Geneva, Sarah, Kevin, David, James, and Benjamin; 1 great-grandchild, Raymond; and a brother, Donald (Linda) Sommer.
Memorials are requested to the O’Fallon United Church of Christ or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Visitation: Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 pm on Friday, Dec. 22, 2017 at Lake View Funeral Home, 5000 N. Illinois, Fairview Heights, IL.
Funeral: Services will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, Dec. 23, 2017 at Lake View Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Martha Thierheimer officiating. Interment will follow in Lake View Memorial Gardens.
