

She is survived by her daughter, Sally Wetzel; two sons, Tom Wetzel, Jeffery Wetzel; 5 grandchildren, Jennifer Wetzel, Sarah Thomas (Wetzel), Jonathan Wetzel, Megan Fitzgerald (Wetzel), Kyle Wetzel; 7 great grandchildren, and one brother Andrew P. Newton.
She proceeded in death by her dear husband Lee E. Wetzel; a son, Mark E. Wetzel; her sister, Rosemarie Jorns (Newton); brothers, Harry, Thomas, and James Newton; parents, Harry and Marie Newton (Jorns).
Ruth was a homemaker, Den Mother, and business woman. She was a life-long member of the First Divine Science Church of Belleville Illinois, and was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary that hosted monthly lunches and activities for the community. She loved to bake her cookies and they will be missed greatly from everyone she shared them with. She loved sewing and cats. Ruth was an avid reader and some of her favorite action thriller authors were, Clive Custler and Lee Child. She was very generous in both mind and spirit. She will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved her.
Memorials may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation, or to the Belleville Humane Society.
Memorial Visitation: Family and friends may visit from 10:00 am until11:00 am, Wednesday, July 7, 2021, at Lake View Funeral Home. 5000 N Illinois Street, Fairview Heights, IL 62208.
Memorial Service: A memorial service celebrating the life of Ms. Wetzel will be held immediately following visitation at 11:00 am, Wednesday, July 7, 2021 at Lake View. Inurnment to take place privately.
