

Shirley was born September 20, 1940 in Wolf Lake, IL to Ogle and Florence (Vincent) Miller. She married Gerald “Gerry” Almond on June 17, 1978 in Godfrey, IL. He survives her and resides in Swansea, IL.
Also surviving is her daughter, Carla (Tim) Haug of Fairview Heights, IL; step-children, Celia (Kenny) Stratman of Round Lake, IL and Kenneth (Linda) Almond of Medford, OR; grandson, Wesley Haug; step-grandchildren, Melody (Greg) Brantner, Neil Stratman, Alexa Almond; step-great grandchild, Jackson; and one sister, Patricia Stephenson of Gulf Breeze, FL.
She was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters, Evelyn Miller, Jewel Rosson and Arlene Poe.
Shirley spent her life devoted to her nursing career. She proudly worked and retired as a registered nurse from James A Haley Veterans’ Hospital in Tampa, Florida, where she received multiple excellency awards throughout her time there. In years prior, she worked with the Illinois Hospital Association and at Alton Memorial Hospital. Her passion was caring for others, which enabled her to make a difference in countless lives over the years. She was honored and recognized in Missouri for her 50 years of uninterrupted service as a registered nurse.
Shirley was a talented artist and enjoyed making stained glass, beautiful pieces of jewelry and artwork for all to enjoy. Her loss is felt by her family and all who loved her, but they rejoice in knowing she is now at peace with the Lord.
A visitation for Shirley will be held on Wednesday, June 28, 2023 from 11:00 A.M.- 12:00 P.M. at Lake View Funeral Home, Fairview Heights, IL.
A funeral service will be held immediately following the visitation, at 12:00 P.M. Final interment will follow at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO.
