He was born on July 2, 1952, in East St. Louis, IL, to the late William and Roberta (nee Rosenkranz) Crane, Sr.
Bill was the true soulmate and steadfast rock of his wife, Tammie (nee Wilson), whom he married on December 31, 1978. The two shared an unbreakable bond, doing everything side by side and filling their life together with laughter, love, and adventure. One of their favorite shared passions was cheering for the St. Louis Cardinals, whether watching games from their living room or from the stands. That love for baseball even took them across the ocean to London, where they experienced the unforgettable Cardinals–Cubs series in person. His devotion, companionship, and unwavering support made him Tammie’s safe place and greatest blessing.
He was a fun-loving, patient, and mild-mannered man who was truly loved by everyone who knew him. After graduating high school, he served in the Army Reserves before beginning his career with the railroad at the age of 21. He went on to retire from Union Pacific Railroad, formally known as Alton Southern Railroad, after 41 years of dedicated service as Manager of Operations, known for his forward-thinking approach and strong leadership. A devoted family man, he was always ready to offer a helping hand to anyone in need. He enjoyed the stars and the great outdoors throughout his life, finding joy in camping, canoe trips, and other adventures in nature. In later years, he also enjoyed the camaraderie of playing horseshoes with friends. Bill especially treasured time with his children, grandchildren, and extended family. Creating memories that they will carry in their hearts forever. His joyful spirit, kindness, and love for his family will be remembered always.
In addition to his parents, Bill is preceded by a son, Jason Crane; brother, Mike Crane; and sister, Sharon O’Connell.
