With heavy hearts and deep gratitude for a life so beautifully lived, we remember Luz Celenia Meléndez, lovingly known as “Lucy,” who passed away on March 1, 2026. Her life was a testament to enduring faith, boundless love, and quiet strength that touched everyone who had the blessing of knowing her.
Lucy was the devoted and cherished wife of 59 years to her beloved husband, Josue Anibal Meléndez. Their marriage was a reflection of commitment, patience, and a love that grew stronger with each passing year—a true partnership rooted in faith and devotion.
She was born to her mother, Gladys Torres, and lovingly raised by Feliza Meléndez, whose nurturing presence helped shape Lucy’s compassionate and resilient spirit.
Above all, Lucy’s greatest joy was her family. She was a proud and loving mother to Martha Esther Meléndez, Elsa Iris Meléndez Savacool (Richard William Savacool), and Juan Gabriel Meléndez. She poured her heart into her children and found immeasurable happiness in her grandchildren: Dominique Marie Meléndez; Selena Desiree Meléndez (Paul Valentino Rollins); Angelica Marie Savacool Meléndez; Christian Joshua Savacool Meléndez; Aria Bella Savacool Meléndez; Juan Antonio Meléndez Marquez; Nalialys Isabel Meléndez Marquez; Jeremias Alexander Meléndez Marquez; and Gladys Yamilet O’Neil Marquez.
Her love only deepened with the arrival of her great-grandchildren: Anthony Meléndez; twins Paul Valentino Rollins II and Payton Mariana-Elizabeth Rollins; and Paxton Mateo Rollins. Each one held a special place in her heart, and she treasured every moment spent with them.
Lucy is also lovingly remembered by her siblings: Jose David Rodriguez Torres, Ylabia Maria Torres, Aida Amelia Rodriguez Pagan, Genaro Rodriguez, Jose David Rodriguez Meléndez, and Andres Rodriguez Meléndez, with whom she shared a lifetime of memories and enduring bonds.
Lucy had an endless thirst for Bible knowledge and truth. She found profound joy in teaching others about Jehovah God’s love and the love of Jesus Christ. Her faith was not only something she believed—it was something she lived. It showed in her kindness, her patience, her generosity, and the way she welcomed others with warmth and sincerity.
She found beauty in life’s simplest blessings—flowers in bloom, a shared meal, laughter around the table, and the presence of loved ones. Her home was a place of comfort and joy, where no one left without feeling cared for. The dining table, in particular, was the heart of her home—a place where stories were shared, laughter flowed freely, and love was always abundant.
Even through life’s challenges, Lucy’s resilient spirit never wavered. She faced every trial with unwavering faith, choosing love and light over fear and despair. Her strength inspired those around her, and her gentle spirit brought peace and reassurance in difficult moments.
Lucy’s legacy is not only in the family she leaves behind, but in the love she gave so freely, the faith she lived so boldly, and the lives she touched so deeply. Her words and example will continue to guide and comfort all who knew her:
“Let everything you do be done in love.”
“Always rejoice in hope.”
