Delia "Dee" Melo

Delia Melo, “Dee,” age 36, of Assonet, passed away Sunday, April 14, 2013 at her residence unexpectedly. She was the partner of Deborah Botelho for the past 20 years, and daughter of Valdemira (Furtado) Melo of Fall River and the late Pedro C. Melo.

Born in the Capelas, Sao Miguel, Acores, she immigrated to United States in 1983 settling in Fall River before moving to Assonet one year ago. She was a graduate of BMC Durfee High School, class of 1995 and earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Liberal Arts from UMass Dartmouth in 2000.

Delia worked as a chef at Bayview Retirement Community in Fall River for the past 20 years.

Delia loved nature and the outdoors, the theater, the arts, music and dancing, playing the guitar, traveling, reading and loved to collect old relics. Delia was also a lover of animals. She was an old soul, but young at heart and full of energy, warmth and love. She was extremely funny, and loved to entertain everyone. She made everyone laugh. Her presence brought such joy to a room, it was contagious, and the instant she walked in a room everyone smiled. When she was around you felt like you were on top of the world.

Also surviving one sister; Ana Araujo and her husband Keith of Fall River, many Aunts and Uncles including; Fatima Furtado of Fall River and many cousins including; Tracy Correia, Melinda and Tonya DeAguiar all of Fall River. Many dear friends and her Miniature Pincher “Daisy”, and her sister’s dogs “Fantasya” and “Neiza”.

Her Funeral will be held Saturday, April 20, 2013 at 8:30AM from the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME OF MEMORIAL TRIBUTE at CHERRY PLACE, 178 Winter St., Fall River, followed by her Funeral Mass at 11:00AM in Good Shepherd Church, 1598 South Main St., Fall River. Visiting hours prior to her Mass from 8:30 AM to 10:30AM in the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Forever Paws, 300 Lynwood St. Fall River, MA 02721. Cremation Private. A Birthday Memorial to celebrate her life will be held at a later date and time which will be announced.
