Eileen P. (Hinchcliffe) Smith, age 80, of Newport, passed away Tuesday, June 12, 2018 in Newport Hospital. Born in Fall River, a daughter of the late William and Bridget (Grant) Hinchcliffe, she was a lifelong area resident.
A graduate of the former Mount St. Mary’s, she earned an Associate Degree in Business from Bristol Community College. Eileen worked as a bookkeeper for local businesses for many years. She enjoyed shopping, dining out and spending time with her family especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by two sons, Robert “Bob” Gagnon and his wife Irene of Bristol, Michael Smith of Warren; two daughters, Leslie Medeiros of Swansea, Debbie Bernardo and her husband James of Somerset; twin sister, Kathleen Burt and her husband Richard of Raynham; sister, Maureen Donahue and her husband William of Somerset; five grandchildren, Shannon Silva, Bethany Czurak, Joseph Rioux, Courtney Lopes and Wyatt Smith; seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Helen Myers, William, John “Jack” and Donald Hinchcliffe and was the mother-in-law of the late Glen Medeiros.
Her visitation will be held on Friday, June 15, 2018 from 4:00 to 6:00PM in the Waring-Sullivan Home at Cherry Place, 178 Winter St., Fall River followed by a Funeral Service at 6:00PM. Relatives and friends invited. Contributions in her honor may be made to the Village House Nursing and Rehab, 70 Harrison Ave. Newport, RI 02840. Burial private.
