Francis L. (Frank) Crofton, age 92, of Fall River passed away Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at Charlton Memorial Hospital with his family by his side. He was the husband of the late Dolores (Ponte) Crofton.
Born in Fall River, a son of the late Fall River Fire Captain Joseph M. Crofton and Ellen C. (Franey) Crofton, he had been a lifelong resident of Fall River. A graduate of BMC Durfee High School, Class of 1947, he was a veteran of the United States Navy serving aboard the USS Alaska and the USS Fred T. Berry during World War II.
Mr. Crofton worked as a firefighter for the Fall River Fire Department for over 28 years before retiring in 1982. After retirement, he worked for the Chancellor’s Office for the Fall River Diocese. He was a communicant at the former St. William’s Church. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and was a fan of both the Red Sox and New England Patriots. Frank was a member of the Retired Fall River Municipal Employees Association, the Knights of Columbus and the Fall River Elks Lodge.
He is survived by two daughters; Donna Lynn Read and her husband David of Tiverton, Colleen Considine and her husband Gary of Westport; two sons Eric Crofton and his wife Christine of Dartmouth and Frank Crofton and his wife Cheryl of Dartmouth, six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Paul, Scott and Cynthia Crofton. He was also the brother of the late FRFD Lieutenant Joseph M. Crofton Jr., Ruth Ciulis, Eileen Plummer and Margaret Seaman. The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the Sarah Brayton Nursing Center and their Highland Unit staff for the kind, compassionate care he received for the past 9 years.
His funeral will be held on Monday, October 15, at 9:00AM from Waring-Sullivan Funeral Home at Cherry Place, 178 Winter St., Fall River, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00AM at Holy Name Church, 709 Hanover St., Fall River. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours are on Sunday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. Burial in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Fall River.
