George M. Chaves, age 90, of Fall River, passed away Wednesday, December 2, 2015 at the Catholic Memorial Home surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Salwa “Sally” (Baroody) Chaves to whom he had been married for 54 years.
Born in Fall River the son of the late Manuel and Mary (Oliveira) Chaves, he was a lifelong resident of the city and a 1942 graduate of BMC Durfee High School. A Sergeant in the United States Army during World War II, he received the European African Middle Eastern Theatre Campaign Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and the American Theatre Campaign Victory Medal.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter Ms. Wendy A. Correira; two granddaughters Sarah E. and Jillian N. Correira; a sister Lorraine Martin and her husband Arnold all of Fall River and several nieces and nephews.
His Funeral Service will be held on Monday, December 7, 2015 at 10am in the Waring-Sullivan Home of Memorial Tribute at Cherry Place 178 Winter St., Fall River. His family will receive friends on Sunday from 4 to 7PM and on Monday from 9 to 10am prior to his service.
