

James Dykstra, age 87, passed away Monday, February 13, 2023 at his home in Tiverton, RI, comforted by his family. He was the loving husband of Joan (Nagelhout) Dykstra, to whom he was married for almost 65 years.
Born and raised in Midland Park, NJ, a son of the late Charles and Elizabeth (Kuipers) Dykstra, he was a longtime New Jersey resident, lived in Maryland for a number of years, then Rhode Island to be close to family.
Jim was the founder and owner of JD Industrial Plastics, and worked in that industry for many years. He served in the US Army in the late 1950s, served in many different roles in the church throughout his life, and was a good friend to so many all along the way. Known affectionately as “Pop” to his grandchildren, he would take them crabbing and fishing, and was an endless source of humor and kindness to them and everyone else he met.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Nancy Dymecki, and her husband David, of Little Compton, RI; two sons, Ken Dykstra of York, PA and John Dykstra and his wife Lisa of Washington, PA.; and his four beloved grandchildren, Sarah and Daniel Dymecki, Jimmy and Marie Dykstra. He is also survived by two sisters, Doris Crandall and Betty Hinnes, and predeceased by two brothers, Charles and Robert.
Services are in the care of the Waring-Sullivan Home at Cherry Place, and will be announced at a later date. Contributions in his memory may be made to: Harmony Hospice, 50 Maude St., Providence, RI 02908, or the American Heart Association.
