

Air Force Lt. Col. (ret) Jeffrey Delaney Fox, 59, died peacefully on July 24, 2010 at the Agape Care Center in Conway, SC after a lengthy illness. The son of Army LTC (ret) Joseph P. Fox and Theresa B. Fox, he was born on April 26, 1951 in Berlin, Germany, and grew up in Fall River, MA. He graduated from Bishop Stang High School in 1969. He graduated from Widener University in Chester, PA in 1973, and later received a Master of Arts Degree in English Literature from Salve Regina College in Newport, RI and a Master of Arts Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College.
In 1973 Jeff was commissioned as a lieutenant in the US Air Force and served as a fighter pilot for twenty years, flying the T-33A, the F-106, and the A-10 aircraft. He was stationed at Myrtle Beach Air Force Base in the 1980’s where he flew the A-10 as a member of the 356th Tactical Fighter Squadron. In 1991, during Operation Desert Storm, Jeff’s plane was shot down. He was captured by the Iraqi Army and held as a Prisoner of War in Baghdad until the conclusion of the conflict. He received numerous medals for bravery including the Distinguished Flying Cross, several Air Medals and the Purple Heart. Upon his retirement from the Air Force, Lt. Col. Fox settled in Myrtle Beach where he lived until his death.
He is survived by three brothers Lt. Col. Timothy J. Fox U.S. Army (Ret) and his wife Elizabeth of Savannah, GA, Robert E. Fox M.D. and his wife Catherine of Charlestown, RI, Major Terrence E. Fox U.S. Airforce (Ret) and his wife Joyce of Stafford, VA, two sisters Patricia A. Borden and her husband Stephen of Seekonk, MA and Nancy E. Gundersen and her husband John of Austin, TX and several nieces and nephews.
His Funeral will be held on Friday, July 30, 2010 at 8:00AM from the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME OF MEMORIAL TRIBUTE at CHERRY PLACE, 178 Winter St., Fall River, followed by a Funeral Mass at 9:00AM in Holy Name Church, 709 Hanover St., Fall River. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours Thursday from 5:00 to 8:00PM.
