

John R. Harrington, age 87, of Fall River, passed away, Tuesday, November 13, 2012 surrounded by his loving family. He was the devoted husband to the love of his life Eileen L. (Toole) Harrington to whom he has been married for the past 61 years.
Born in Fall River, a son of the late John M. and Claire (Russell) Harrington, he had been a lifelong resident of the city.
A Veteran of the United States Navy he served during World War II and was one of the original sailors that boarded the U.S.S. Boston and was a Plank Owner. He was a firefighter with the Fall River Fire Department for 36 years retiring from engine six in 1984.
Mr. Harrington was a communicant of Holy Name Church. He loved and adored his children and grandchildren; his whole life was devoted and dedicated to his family.
Surviving in addition to his wife, two sons; John R. Harrington II of Portsmouth, RI, Michael W. Harrington of Fall River, two daughters; Eileen M. Desmarais of Westport, Maureen E. Fisher of Seekonk, seven grandchildren; Brian Desmarais, Jennifer D’Arrigo, Jeffrey D’Arrigo, Caitlin Desmarais, John Harrington III, Carlin Desmarais, Casey Harrington, one great granddaughter; Sophie Desmarais, and several nieces and nephews. He was brother of the late William and James Harrington.
His Funeral will be held Friday, November 16, 2012 at 10:00AM in Holy Name Church, 709 Hanover St., Fall River. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted. Contributions in his honor may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 480 Pleasant St., Watertown, MA 02472. Entombment in Notre Dame Mausoleum. Arrangements in the care of the Waring-Sullivan Home of Memorial Tribute at Cherry Place.
