Fr. John was remembered in the prayers of the morning Mass here at Christ the King --even as time passes he is still remembered  missed by many.

He was a nice man and was a responsible priest, took his job as a caring soul. He had covered a big area throughout the Cape Cod community dealing with two Parishes. May Father Perry RIP...

It's amazing that a whole year has passed since "Young" Father Perry was called home.  And what a year it has been!  I think of him often and pray each  day that God will bless him.   I am comforted that he is safe, but saddened that he is no longer with us here.

Fr. John married my husband and I on June 23, in 2001 at Saint Joseph parish. One thing that I remember is that when Douglas and I got to the altar, Fr. John whispered to us "take a deep breath".

To all of  Fr. John's Family, 

I was on my way to the Holy Land when I received a message during a lay over at Munich airport that John had passed away unexpectedly; I was shocked and deeply saddened.   John was my supervisor during my deacon year and I have always been very fond of him as a brother priest who had many technical talents as well and most of all,  a no nonsense, ever honest approach to all things! He truly was taken from us too soon but  I am comforted by the thought of him reunited with his parents, Fr. Vinnie D.  and Fr. John  Murphy and all the good people of Holy Name and other parishes where he served who were also so fond of him.   I offered Mass for him in Jerusalem on Monday, February 17th, but felt terrible that I could not be present at his funeral Mass that day in Fall River.   Please be assured that he will long be remembered!   With sincere  sympathy and a promise of prayer,

My wife and daughter and myself attend the 9 AM daily Mass at OLV Parish and were so saddened by the sudden passing of Father Perry.  He will always be in our thoughts and prayers and though we will miss him very much we know he is in Heaven.

In the 1980's I had the pleasure of working with Father Perry at Holy Name in New Bedford.  He was a good friend and kind, thoughtful man.   His death is so shocking and sad.  My deepest sympathy to his family at this difficult time.  May he rest in peace.

Great, mild mannered  individual who I had the privilege of knowing while working together at Cathedral Camp in Westport in the ‘80’s. May God  rest his soul.

Profound sympathy to John’s dear family, to his sister and brothers and their families.  John and I met in 1975 when we began together at Saint John’s Seminary College. From the beginning the genuine person he was made him a close, unique, and wonderful friend.  There was no falsehood in him at all, only honesty, truth, and gentle love. Often we met and talked  over the years since ordination, but never often enough.  I was always better and happier after visiting with John.  I pray today, and will continue to pray, for the consolation of all who love him and have benefited from his ministry as a faithful priest.  I am one of many who will miss Father John Perry and his ways all the rest of my own life. We would like to extend to you our deepest condolences.  His passing is a huge loss to so many of us. He has made immeasurable contributions everywhere he has ever been.   I have had the privilege of knowing your brother, Father John J. Perry, for many, many years.  My Aunt, Betty Salmon, was a cook at the Rectory for both Monsignor John J. Perry and Father John J. Perry, and that was our initial connection years ago. He would often share stories about his Portuguese background and my Aunt, an Irish immigrant, would share her stories about Ireland.  It was always fun listening to them and learning from them as they visited.  As my Aunt got older and was living alone on the Cape and unable to drive to Our Lady of Victory (OLV), she and I both looked forward to Father Perry’s visits.  He was an amazing priest and loved serving the Lord, but there was a humble, sweet side to him with a great sense of humor too.  We would often visit and laugh and laugh.  I saw him as Father Perry, but part of me felt like he was another big brother to me too. The last couple of days have been very difficult as I have tried to deal with the fact that he is gone, but because it was so sudden, I still have trouble comprehending the fact that when I go home to visit, he won’t be there; it just won’t be the same on the Cape for me anymore.

It has been very sad days since learning about the death of Father John J. Perry.  My husband and I got to meet Father when he was pastor of Saint Joseph’s Church in Fall River.  We were very blessed to have him with  us.  He was a great priest who cared for his parishioners and gave great Homily’s. He was also a family friend.

My mom, Judy O'Connell, met Father Perry during his years at St. Joseph's parish in Fall River.  We all really enjoyed his services.  My mom had such a bond with him,  that she and her brother, Peter Bergeron, began to travel to Taunton most Sunday mornings just to attend his services.  They really connected at the coffee hour following the mass.   She was so sad to hear of his unexpected passing.   Our sincere sympathies to his family.  He will be greatly missed. We met Fr. Perry when he first served at Our Lady of Victory and were delighted when he returned as our Pastor in 2014.
He always spoke lovingly of his family and was proud of his heritage and always greeted us with a Portuguese phrase or two.

Going back 45 years we use to work together as teenagers .Never will forget the the time you dropped a tray of food and you went into a panic. Still fresh in my memory as if it was yesterday but mostly important was what an awesome person and genuine soul you were. You were different soul from all other teens. My memories of Fr John were as a newly ordained priest.  He always showed me kindness .  His inquisitive nature seemed to help him remember everyone’s name which formed a connection few people experience.  I also remember discussions with his brother Bob about electrical theory in which he often corrected his younger brother.  My deepest condolences go out to the entire Perry family and all those who called John a friend . Rest In Peace good and faithful servant.

I recently started praying daily for the men whom positively influenced my life. Of course Father John was and is at the top of that list. Words can not do justice to the good he has done and the Christ figure he has freely shared with all of us.  A very good man who will be missed .

I well remember Young Father Perry the first time he was at Our Lady Of Victory. Serving with Then Older Father Perry.
I was working for the Gas Co. doing Dig Safes in the Town of Barnstable . (Dig Safes is locating underground Gas Lines and marking Location.)
I got a call to get over to Our Lady Of Victory as someone is digging and already broke the Telephone Cable before they break the Gas Service. I got there and it was "Young Father Perry" digging with a shovel he was looking for the electric line to Statue over the hill. He said he was going to fix the wire as he is a License Electrician. I remember getting on his case in a funny way for not calling DIG SAFE before he started digging.

To Johns family our deepest sympathy and condolences on his sudden and untimely passing. His friendship and Priestly presence will be sadly missed. One of his great qualities was that he never forgot where he came from and that made him a great influence on the parishioners he ministered. God has a place for him!! With all our sorrow and Love . We met Father John in the early 80's when he came to serve at Our Lady of Victory in Centerville. Over his time there, he became a vital part of our Parrish, and also happen to share the same name as our beloved Pastor also named  Rev. John Perry. The two men bonded and lead our Parrish Community with each sharing their kindnesses, spirituality, and sense of humor. They both welcomed both young and old to mass and Parrish activities. The young Father Perry (as we all kindly called him), eventually left to work in another church as Pastor. I believe the whole community rejoiced when he returned to us four short years ago a more mature, however still the wonderful, kind, spiritual Priest we all loved. As Tom and I went to shake his hand after his first mass back, we asked "Do you remember us?" and he quickly responded with a big smile and chuckle..."Of course, McDonald's ...I could never forget you!" Such a Priest, who was not only spiritual, humble, and full of grace....but a wonderful human being. Dear Father you will be so dearly missed. God Bless you, your family, and our community. 

I am so sorry for your loss.    I recently lost my husband, Jimmy, in a similar, sudden death.    Father Perry was wonderful and so caring.   
I so enjoyed our talks after Mass.   I joked with him on Tuesdays as I am always late, but I was "on time" on Tuesdays.   I will miss driving up Wianno Avenue praying we won't collide. 
He will be sorely missed.   Thank you for sharing him with us.

What wonderful high school memories I have of (Father) John.   We were all part of a group of friends that got together on weekends just to enjoy each others’ company and share a lot of laughs. His laughter could light up a room.    We all knew then what his life vocation would be.

Fr. John was one of the very best friends I ever had.  In addition he was Holy Priest and comforter to my sweet heart Abigail Weller.
He did so many kindnesses to both Gail and myself.  I will await with keen anticipation our reunion in the afterlife.  Amen




I am very saddened by news of John's unexpected passing. He was a  gentle and friendly person and wonderful priest.  I will be grateful for fond memories of days in Holy Rosary Parish and Seminary. His is a life short lived, but I am certain John is now enjoying the rewards of a life well lived / a life lived in faithful service to GOD and Church. Fr. Perry and I have the same last name although we are not related.   My father's name actually is John Perry and like Fr. Perry grew up in Fall River. That gave us something to talk about at Our Lady of Victory where I have been an Altar server first as a young child and now as an adult.

I always found Fr. Perry to be a quiet and unassuming yet caring and gentle person. He would always ask how I was doing or how my father was before we had Mass together. I was impressed that he actually remembered me after he was assigned to OLV as pastor 5 1/2 years ago after being away from the parish for so many years and I was quite young during his first assignment there.

My wife will ask "what would Fr. Perry say about that" when I find myself becoming angry about something. In many instances I would find myself reflecting on what Fr. Perry probably would say and the lessons in his homilies are things I'll try to carry forward.

RIP Fr. Perry  It was a pleasure serving with you when we had the Masses together.

Father Perry does, and always will, hold a special place in the hearts of the Otto family.  He became a very close friend of our family through the years.  Our sons were altar boys for him during his early years at Our Lady of Victory and from there our friendship grew.  He officiated at the marriages of our three children and christened four of our six grandchildren.  The two newborns were being Christened by him this April.  
His passing will leave a void in our lives forever.  It was an honor and a privilege to have known him and to have him share in our Christian and personal lives.  Rest in peace Father Perry.   With love and the deepest of gratitude.  The Otto Family

Fr. Perry was a wonderful priest. He did a great job merging the former Immaculate Conception Church in Taunton with St. Jacques Church also in Taunton to become St. Jude Parish. He was friendly and helpful to all.

I knew him when their were two father Perry’s at Our Lady Of Victory, he was a quiet and caring man. He went over and gave my Aunt her last rights about two years ago, he always had a smile. Far to young, but never forgotten may the Angels lead you into Paradise. RIP Father Perry, your with the Angels now, good and faithful servant
