

Joseph M. “Zah” Raposa, age 79, of Westport, passed away Thursday, December 11, 2025 at home, surrounded by his loving family. He was the devoted husband of Janice (Sroczynski) Raposa to whom he had been married for the past 49 years.
Born in Sao Miguel, Acores, he was a son of the late Manuel and Hilda (Perreira) Raposa.
Joseph was a communicant of St. Stanislaus Church and spent 30 years working as a heavy equipment operator in the construction industry.
Joseph was always mentally as well as physically strong. Whether tackling demanding tasks, facing life’s challenges, or supporting those around him, he could always be counted on to offer a helping hand to anyone in need. He was the kind of man who showed up—no matter the circumstance—and gave of himself freely and generously.
Above all else, Joseph’s world revolved around his family. His greatest joy came from the time he spent with them, whether sharing a meal, celebrating special moments, or simply enjoying each other’s company at home. He was a devoted husband, a caring and supportive father, and a deeply loving grandfather. His family always came first, and his presence will be forever missed by all who had the privilege of loving him.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Doreen Pierce and her husband Michael of Fall River; one son, Eli Raposa and his wife Stacey of Westport; four grandchildren, Ashley Silva, Jordan Farias, Eli Raposa, Jr., Ella Raposa; two great-grandchildren, Chloe and Talan; one brother, Vincent Raposa of Fall River and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Mary Lou Dias and Manuel Raposa.
His funeral will be held Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at 9:00AM from the Waring-Sullivan Home at Cherry Place, 178 Winter Street, Fall River followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00AM at St. Stanislaus Church, 36 Rockland Street, Fall River. Relatives and friends are invited. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00PM. Contributions in his honor may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Burial in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Fall River.
