

Born in Fall River, daughter of the late Andrew G. and Barbara (Smith) Schofield she was a longtime resident of Westport.
A graduate of Walnut Hill School in Natick, MA, Class of 1968. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Wheelock College in 1972. Linda was a devoted first grade teacher in Westport for many years, an office manager for her family business Smith Office Equipment in Fall River, a Credentialing Specialist for SSTAR and the Executive Director for the Fall River Women’s Union. Most importantly, she loved being a mother, always there for her children, grandchildren, and the many others she treated as her own. Her family was and always will be so much bigger because of the connections and friendships she maintained throughout her life.
A former Finance Chair of the Fall River Women’s Union, she also served as the first Vice President and was the Office Manager for several years. Passionately continuing the work of her late mother Barbara, a long-time member and former president of the organization. A board member of the Faxon Animal Shelter, she was also on the board of the Girl Scouts of Southern New England. An active member of her community, she was a member of the United Congregational Church in Little Compton, the Acoaxet Club, the Elephant Rock Beach Club, the Fortnightly Club and Friday Club. Linda held a lifelong passion for gardening and cooking (her fudge was beloved by many). She was an impeccable entertainer and host, enjoyed skiing, boating (swimming at Quicks Hole), playing tennis, traveling the world (favorite destinations: Santorini and the Grand Canyon), and an active social life with her amazing friends. Her grace, dignity, compassion and courage we knew.
She is survived by two sons, John J. Bolger Jr. and his wife Jennifer of Lynchburg, VA and Timothy A. Bolger of Westport; one daughter, Susanna D. Sylvia of Fairhaven; one brother, Andrew G. Schofield Jr. and his wife Jill; two grandchildren, Jay F. Bolger and Charlotte E. Sylvia and many nieces and nephews.
Due to current restrictions her burial in Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport will be private.
In lieu of flowers, please plant some bulbs to enjoy in your garden in remembrance of her; sharing in her passion for gardening. You may also send memorial donations in her honor to the Fall River Women’s Union, 101 Rock Street, Fall River, MA 02720. Gifts will be used to better the lives of women and children in the greater Fall River area.
