

Maria I. (Ponte) Furtado, 84, of Somerset, passed away on August 5, 2024, at Charlton Memorial Hospital. Born in São Miguel, Azores, Maria eventually made her way to the United States, where she devoted her life to her family.
Maria worked as a seamstress in the local textile industry until her retirement, where her exceptional skill and attention to detail were evident in every piece she created. Outside of work, she found joy in reading mystery novels, often becoming engrossed in the suspense of a good story. A passionate Boston Red Sox fan, she loved cheering on her favorite team, treasuring each game.
Maria's greatest love was her family. She cherished the time spent with her loved ones, creating lasting memories filled with warmth and laughter. As a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend, her presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Maria leaves behind her children: Ron Furtado and his wife Kelly of Somerset, Cindy Martin and her husband Gerry of Florida, Gary Furtado of Somerset, Susan Ledkins of Mississippi, and Pam Kilgus of Fall River; eleven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings, Norbert Ponte and Emily Capeto.
Family and friends are invited to attend her funeral service on Friday, August 23, 2024 at 11:00 AM in the Waring-Sullivan Home at Cherry Place, 178 Winter Street, Fall River. Burial will follow in Nathan
Slade Cemetery, Somerset. Visitation will be held on Friday from 9:00 to 11:00 AM, prior to the service.
