Maureen Catherine Pereira

Born March 24, 1942, in Fall River, she was the daughter of the late Daniel J. and Mary P. (Sullivan) Sheahan of Fall River, Mass.

Besides her husband, John, she leaves a daughter Elizabeth Ann (Pereira) Strojny and son in law Edward Strojny and beloved grandsons, Ryan Edward and Andrew John of Norton, MA , as well as her son James Edward Pereira of Fall River, MA.

Also survived by her sister Sylvia Ann (Sheahan) Kalambokas and her husband Michael Kalambokas of Reading, MA and her sister Margaret Elizabeth (Sheahan) Walsh and husband Edward Walsh of Fall River, MA.

She was the loving aunt of Edward Michael Walsh and his wife Maya Gloss and their children Madla and Connor of Barrington, NH. And also Daniel Sheahan Walsh and his wife, Kelly and sons Alexander and Joey of North Andover, MA.

Mrs. Pereira grew up in Saints Peter and Paul’s Parish, she graduated Mount Saint Mary Academy in 1959 and the Union Hospital School Nursing in 1962 and has been an active member of the Alumni. She was a long time communicant of Holy Name Parish was a past President of the Holy Name Women’s Guild as well as Past President of the Fall River Firefighters Ladies Auxiliary. and a past member of the Catholic Women’s Club of Fall River, She also served as a Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader in Fall River.

Mrs. Pereira pursued her nursing career in Fall River and retired after fifty years. She worked in the capacity of a Floor Nurse at the Union Hospital, as well as Kimwell Nursing Home. She was also Assistant Director of Nurses at the Fall River Nursing Home and served as the Director of Nursing at the Taunton Nursing Home and retired

from Rosewood Manor in 2012.

Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at 9am from the Waring-Sullivan Home of Memorial Tribute at Cherry Place, 178 Winter St., Fall River followed by her Funeral Mass at 10am in Holy Name Church, 709 Hanover St., Fall River. Visiting hours will be Monday from 4 to7pm. Memorial contributions in her honor may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Fall River.
