Nelia M. Manteiga

Nelia M. (Sousa Valente) Manteiga, age 71, of Fall River, passed away Saturday, August 17, 2024 at home surrounded by her family. She was the wife of Jose F. Manteiga to whom she has been married to for the past 52 years.

Born, raised and educated in Terceira, Açores, she was the daughter of the late Maria do Espirito Santo Sousa and Libertino da Silva Valente. She immigrated to the United States in 1975, having settled in Fall River.

She worked in the textile industry for many years. After retirement, she helped care for her grandchildren, which was her greatest joy. She enjoyed cooking, completing crossword puzzles, crocheting and most of all spending time with her family.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, Steven Manteiga and his wife Stephanie, Jeffrey Manteiga; one daughter Elizabeth Manteiga and her fiancé Deric Lopes all of Fall River; three sisters, Cidalisa Manteiga and her husband Deodato of Cumberland, RI, Adriana Capelo and Maria Fatima Duarte of Canada; one brother, Raul Valente and his wife Maria of Sao Miguel, Açores; five grandchildren, Jasmine, Haley, Peyton and Connor Manteiga and Dakota Lopes and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Cecelia Goulart.

Her Funeral will be held on Thursday, August 22, 2024 at 9:00AM from the Waring-Sullivan Home at Cherry Place, 178 Winter St., Fall River, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00AM in Santo Christo Church, Columbia St., Fall River. Relatives and friends invited. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00PM. Burial in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Fall River.
