

Born in Fall River, the son of the late Thomas J. and Elizabeth (Brown) Hudner, he was a longtime resident of Westport.
A graduate of Phillips Academy in Andover, he served as Class President and excelled in football, lacrosse and basketball. After graduating from Andover in 1954, he served in the United States Marine Corps before attending Harvard University and completing his studies at Boston University. A project manager and early software programmer, he was the Vice President of the Fall River National Bank and Senior System Research Officer for the Bank of Boston.
Phil was always an active member of his community; he was a former president and team manager with Fall River North Minor League Baseball and a swim team coach for the Fall River YMCA. He also served as Chairman at the St. Anne’s Hospital School of Nursing and Fall River Diploma School of Nursing. Phil was on the Board of Directors for St. Anne’s Hospital and Battleship Massachusetts, a Trustee for the Fall River Marine Museum, a Director at Westport Yacht Club, and was on the Planning Board for the Town of Westport.
Phil was blessed with a loving family and many wonderful, life-long friends. He adored his many dogs, but his greatest joy was his wife Sally of 64 years, their grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and his many nephews and nieces.
He is survived by two sons, R. Timothy Hudner and his wife Jean of Grand Junction, CO and Philip B. Hudner, Jr. and his wife Carol of South Dartmouth; one daughter, Ann S. Hudner of Portland, OR; one sister, Mary Hammer; four grandchildren, Sara Troutman and her husband Jake, Sanford Hudner, Philip B. Hudner, III and his wife Hannah Holland, and Max L. Hudner; three great-grandchildren, Jane, Maggie and Charles Troutman; and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late James, Richard, and Thomas Hudner.
His Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, August 9, 2024, at 11:00 AM in St. John the Baptist, 945 Main Road, Westport followed by burial in Beech Grove Cemetery. Visiting hours are Thursday, August 8th from 5:00 – 7:00 PM in the Waring-Sullivan Home at Cherry Place, 178 Winter St., Fall River.
