Steven—“Pop” to his sons—was born in Fall River, Massachusetts on May 8, 1952. He graduated from Bishop Connolly High School in 1970, earned a bachelor’s degree in Business in 1974 and an M.B.A. from Southern Massachusetts University in 1984.
He married Joan Biello (née Bochenek) in July 1974 and they were married until her death in December 2003. He had two sons, Peter Biello of Concord, NH and Mark Biello of Fall River, MA. He had one brother, Paul Biello, of Fall River, MA and one niece, Abagael Biello of Fall River, MA. For the past decade, he was in a loving relationship with Kathy Wiggins of Jacksonville, FL.
For years, Steven worked for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. In his role, he worked closely with many of the state’s schools for children with special needs. He made sure those children received the “maximum benefit” the state could provide. In that sense, Steven was a guardian of some of the state’s most vulnerable children.
Anyone who knew Steven would say that his knowledge of the law, the courts, and taxes was deep. Steven deployed this knowledge to help his friends and family. He was always ready to answer questions. In fact, Steven was helping his own parents prepare their tax returns since the age of 13.
Steven will be remembered, in part, for the depth and breadth of his curiosity about and knowledge of a variety of things. With his younger son he would discuss cars, NASCAR, and home repair projects; with his elder son, fiction, history, and politics; with his brother, culinary arts. Name a topic and Steven would weigh in with wit and grace.
He’ll also be remembered for his sense of humor. He was a fan of comedians George Carlin and Lewis Black, and enjoyed sitting at the dinner table with family and friends, sharing stories, and telling jokes. Steven was a fan of the New York Yankees and Dale Earnhardt Sr. and Jr.
For decades, Steven maintained a garden. He loved growing tomatoes, green beans, herbs, and other vegetables and cooking with fresh ingredients harvested in his backyard.
A wake for Steven will be held at the Waring-Sullivan Funeral Home at 178 Winter Street in Fall River on Monday, December 28 from 4-8 p.m., with the memorial service Tuesday, December 29 at 10 a.m. at Waring-Sullivan. He will be buried in St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Fall River. Memorial contributions can be made to Habitat for Humanity at www.habitat.org In honor of Steven’s love of gardening, flowers or any plants that can be planted in the spring are welcome.
