

Born in Fall River, the son of the late Thomas P. and Mary (Lundy) Walsh, he was a lifelong resident of the city. Mr. Walsh was a graduate of Msgr. Prevost High School and upon his graduation in 1945 he entered the United States Air Force and served his country during World War II. He was honorably discharged and entered Yankton College in South Dakota where he received his Bachelor’s Degree and went on to earn his Master’s Degree from Bridgewater State College.
Mr. Walsh was an Educator in the Fall River School Department for 36 years, having been a teacher in Henry Lord from 1953 to 1960, a Guidance Counselor at BMC Durfee High School for 15 years and later became the Vice Principal at Talbot Middle School for 14 years until his retirement in 1989. He was a communicant of Holy Name Church where he received the Marion Medal and was a member of its’ Men’s Club. Mr. Walsh was a former and longtime Director of the YMCA Camp Jennings in Westport, the Principal of the Evening School at Durfee High School, administered Civil Service exams, was a member of the First Friday Club, Over the Hill Gang and the Corky Row Club. He enjoyed reading, traveling, and will be remembered by family and friends as always willing to help and educate others.
He is survived by his four children Thomas P. Walsh III (Judy) of Framingham, Patricia A. Benevides (Joseph V.) of Assonet, Maureen D. Sicard (Gerald) of No. Dartmouth and Lynn M. Walsh (AnnMarie) of Los Angeles, CA; six grandchildren Thomas P. Walsh IV, Hallee B. Walsh, Kathryn E. Benevides, Sarah P. Benevides, Timothy G. Sicard and Kellie M. Sicard; one great granddaughter Autumn Higgins and a sister in-law Theresa Gauthier of Fall River and four nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Kathleen F. Walsh.
His funeral will be held on Monday, February 28, 2011 at 8 am from the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME OF MEMORIAL TRIBUTE AT CHERRY PLACE, 178 Winter St., Fall River followed by his funeral mass at 9 am in Holy Name Church, 709 Hanover St., Fall River. Visiting hours, Sunday from 4-8pm. Memorial contributions in his honor may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, MA 02472 or the Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Fall River.
