

Born in Fall River, a son of the late Lawrence and Ellen (Pert) Hawkins, he was a lifelong resident of the city and a graduate of BMC Durfee High School.
Mr. Hawkins, a World War II Navy veteran, played semipro baseball for several teams, including the Fall River Indians. He became an officer with the Fall River police department before joining the staff of the Fall River Boys and Girls Club, where he worked for over 30 years, retiring as the Executive Director. He also served as a Trustee of BayCoast Bank and was a member of the Over the Hill Gang.
He is survived by his six children, William D. Hawkins Jr. and his wife Kimberly of Fall River, Jeffrey Hawkins and his wife Linda of Seekonk, Jay Hawkins and his wife Julia Anne of Livermore, CA, Timothy Hawkins and his wife Kelly of Fall River, Jill Latinville and her husband Brian of Fall River and Joy Mikolay and her husband Michael of Jamestown, RI; a brother Henry Hawkins, fourteen grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Mary Shovelton, Agnes Lord, Lawrence and John Hawkins.
His funeral will be held on Friday, March 17, 2017 at 9am from the Waring-Sullivan Home at Cherry Place 178 Winter St., Fall River followed by his Funeral Mass at 10am in Holy Trinity Church 951 Stafford Rd., Fall River. Visiting hours will be Thursday from 4 to 8pm. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Fall River.
