

Alma Mae Beavers, age 97, of Arlington, passed away at home surrounded by her family on March 17 , 2023. Alma was born in Arlington, Virginia to Robert Ivan and Daisy Mae Turner, the oldest of four sisters and one brother. For the last six years, due to her health, Alma has been cared for at home with wonderful caregivers that she loved and called my girls.
Alma and her husband, Elton lived together in Arlington with their three daughters in a house Elton built with family in 1951. Alma cherished her time with her daughters, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. As a homemaker, she took care of all the family needs which included delicious homemade dinners every night.
Alma was an amazing cook and baker. She provided decorated wedding, birthday, and baby shower cakes for her family. Alma loved Mount Vernon Baptist Church and attended since early childhood. She sang in the choir and provided homemade fellowship desserts every Sunday. Alma had beautiful script handwriting. Family and friends would ask her to write their invitations for special events, which brought her great joy.
Alma enjoyed going on many family vacations including family cruises. One of her favorite pastimes was crocheting. She made many crocheted baby blankets and quilts for her family. The holidays were always enjoyed together with family and great food.
Alma is survived by her children Sharon L Chapman (Mike), Patsy K Potter (Doug), Sandra J Mudd; six grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; sister Jean M Gartzke; and brother, Robert I. Turner, Jr.
Alma is preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Elton S. Beavers.
Visitation will be held at 9:00 am on Saturday, March 25, 2023 at Murphy’s Funeral Home, 1102 West Broad St, Falls Church, VA 22046. Memorial service will follow at 10:30am and interment immediately following the service at National Memorial Park, 7482 Lee Hwy, Falls Church, VA 2202
