Angelo (Gene) Henry Soares III, age 60, passed away surrounded by his loving family on January 15, 2023, after a short illness. Gene was born on September 6, 1962, the son of Angelo and Dorothy Soares, and grew up in McLean, VA.
Gene loved and lived his life with unapologetic joy. He meant so much to so many and had a unique relationship with each and every person – Once you met Gene, you knew you had a friend for life. He was captivated by the beauty of the world, and his insatiable curiosity for life was infectious. His pure kindness will forever stay in the hearts of those who knew him.
Gene had a lifelong passion for music and playing the drums. He collected and restored drums and proudly displayed the set his dad had given him when he was 15 years old in the “beat lab” he had set up in his home. He was the drummer for the band The Trouble with Rose and had recently completed putting together his dream drum kit. Gene was perpetually in awe of nature, and this love led to him owning his own photography business, Collective Mind Imaging.
Water and baseball were two of Gene’s other favorite joys in life. He reminisced often about his days on his family’s boat and looked forward to annual visits to the Outer Banks, where his favorite activities were drinking coffee while watching the sunrise, driving on the 4x4 beach, and feasting on, as he referred to them, “crabbies.”
In 2008, Gene married Tammy and gained four stepdaughters who affectionately called him “Gman.” Gene and Tammy embraced simple pleasures together like working in the yard of their recently purchased “forever” home, dancing in the grocery store aisles, dressing up for the Maryland Renaissance Festival, building Legos with the little ones, spending time with their huge, blended family, and relaxing with Bella, their 100 pound “lap dog.”
More than anything else in the world, Gene loved his son, Angelo (Ang). The two of them shared an unshakable bond, talking and laughing with each other daily. Gene passed on his love of music, motorcycles, cars, art, and nature to his son, which always gave them space to enjoy life and create memories together. Gene loved to laugh and had a mischievous grin that let you know he might be up to something, a trait he inherited from his father and that will live on through Ang.
Always a hard and dedicated worker, Gene started working as a teenager alongside his father at Edgar K. Jones Jr., Inc., where he ultimately rose to become the General Superintendent following his father’s retirement. Most recently, Gene was an Estimator/Project Manager at H&H Drywall Specialties, Inc.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Russell (Rusty) F. Smith.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Tammy, son, Angelo H. Soares IV (Sarah), stepdaughters Jessa (Jason), Elizabeth (Todd), Stephanie (Darren), and Courtney. He was a loving brother to siblings Jacqueline Scire and John (Jennifer) Soares, proud uncle to nieces Allison Scire and Jordan Soares and nephews Mark Scire II and Joseph Soares, and great uncle to great niece Bailey Soares. He was a doting Papa and cherished his time with Laurel, Mikey, Jaxon, Maxwell, Silas, and Charlie, all of whom adored their Papa. Gene is also survived by an extended family of cousins and other family members who will always hold him near to their hearts.
