A love for the Lord was observed in every as-pect of her life. She lived her life according to God’s holy word.
Raised her children and several of her grand-children. She had a unique way of making them all feel special.
Beloved by all she encountered.
A pillar of strength in her family, community and church.
Royalty in her own way.
Always putting the needs of others before her own.
On her journey, Barbara attended the Fairfax County and District of Columbia Public School Systems.
Barbara was married to the late Alfred J. Reid for over 30 years. Barbara was known as Big Mama. She was the mother to Yvonne Kane, Robert Oshode, Terry Reid, Alfred G. Outlaw, Gloria Reid, James Fitchet & Serita Reid.
Barbara worked for over 20 years as a Financial Clerk at the National Wild-life Federation. Even while being a hard worker she never forget to raise her family and forget her roots in the church.
Barbara acknowledged Christ early in her life and was a devoted woman of God. She was a faithful member of Cartersville Baptist Church since being baptized at an early age. One of her shinning moments at Cartersville, was that she was the Chair-woman of the Trustee Board and was the Treasurer up until her death. She was very active in other church clubs/organizations: the Northern Virginia Baptist Association where she held many positions, an Original member of the Stars of Bethlehem, Mem-ber of the Gospel Choir, the Ladies Auxiliary and a former member of the Virginia Chapter of the NAACP.
On June 23, 2012, the Lord called his angel, Barbara home. Barbara leaves to cherish her memory: 4 daughters, Yvonne, Terry, Gloria and Serita; 3 sons, Robert, Alfred and James; 46 grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren; 3 nieces, Jackie, Alice and Vicki; 3 nephews, Jimmy, Charles and Jerry; a special friend, Rev. Robert Pearson; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Love is stronger than death even though it can’t stop it from happening, but no matter how hard death tries it can’t separate people from love either. In the end, life is stronger than death.
