Her story began Nov 20, 1942, in New York City. Barbara was born to Sabitoy and Mary Siegel. She and her brother, Bert, grew up in Bridgeport, CT. She graduated with a degree in Physical Education and began teaching. It was then that “Barb” found her soul mate in “Bob” Tarmy. That’s where the laughter started and never stopped. Bob and Barb settled in Framingham, MA and decided to pass their odd sense of humor on to their three sons, Eric, Adam, and Noel.
Barbara was always very involved in the lives of her sons, friends, and community. While living in Satellite Beach, FL, she was a baseball and soccer coach, Cub Scout mom and substitute teacher. She and Bob even decided to learn Tae Kwon Do to spend more time with their three black belt sons. She even briefly acted as manager of an amateur breakdancing crew.
In Herndon, VA, she was the “cool mom” who was invited to her sons’ parties. She and Bob continued laughing until his passing from cancer in 1999. Barb continued living in VA and MD where she was blessed with 5 grandchildren and met many of the best friends she kept close for the rest of her life. She was an adored fixture in the lives of so many.
A breast cancer survivor, Barbara Siegel Tarmy also lived with a progressive cardio-pulmonary disease for many years. She passed peacefully with her sons and daughter-in-law by her side on Saturday, Jan 31, 2015.
Memorial gifts may be made to the American Cancer Society and Arbor Day Foundation in her honor.
