He completed his primary studies and was enrolled at North Carolina Wesleyan University for a year before deciding to join the workforce. He worked as a barber waiter and as an insurance agent
May is preceded in death by his sister Kally, his mother Mwanza Nkashama, and his father Wa Bilenga.
