A resident of McLean, Virginia, he died at the age of 70 years old from prostate cancer caused by exposure to Agent Orange during his military service in Vietnam.
He was married to the love of his life, Denise “Dolly” Maria Loisou, for over 45 years. Dennis never met a stranger, which served him well personally and professionally.
A Professional Engineer by degree, he graduated from Texas A&M University and went on to earn Master of Science degrees from both the University of California, Berkeley, and the University of Southern California, as well as an Executive MBA from Harvard University.
He retired from the U.S. Army after 20 years of service that included deployments to Vietnam, Saudi Arabia, and Korea as well as service throughout the United States with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Joint Chiefs of Staff. His extensive military service garnered him several awards, including the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster, the Meritorious Service Medal, and the Defense Meritorious Service Medal. He was also an Airborne Ranger. After retirement, he focused on real estate investments with a specialty in construction projects.
His legacy includes daughters Deana Simons (Tony), Alexa and Andrew; Dorothea Markakos (Peter), Mia, Max , Melina and Mason; Korinna Katharos (Nick), Penelope and James Dennis.
His true passions other than serving his Lord and Savior, were golf, boating, fishing, gardening, the Washington Redskins, and volunteering with Kairos Prison Ministry.
