Born on November 26, 1942, in Washington, D.C., Donna was the cherished daughter of Leon and Garnette Strickland. From an early age, her spirited independence and deep devotion to family became the hallmarks of her life.
Donna was known for her warmth, her generous heart, and the joy she brought to every family gathering. Whether she was playing a lively game of bingo, planning a beloved beach trip, or offering one of her signature hugs and kisses, she made everyone around her feel loved. Her home was filled with laughter, love, and the mouth-watering aroma of her cooking—especially her famous stroganoff, a treasured recipe no one has quite been able to recreate.
She was the beloved wife of Joel D. Cook, and a devoted mother to David L. (Sis) Cook and Steven D. (Michelle) Cook. Donna was a proud and loving grandmother to Erin McGlamery-Vivian, Tyler S. Cook, Corey N. Cook, P.J. Mulvaney, Alissa Gemme, and Shantel Dupont. She was also a joyful great-grandmother to Robert David Joel McGlamery, Jazmyn Cook, Brooke Mulvaney, Jaxsin Gemme, Brodie Mulvaney, Elliana Oliver, Jenzie Gemme, Emma Lee Vivian, Sadie Grace Cook and Elias Oliver.
Donna’s legacy is one of unconditional love, selflessness, and the quiet strength that held her family together. Her absence leaves an irreplaceable void in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Donna’s life on July 1, 2025, at Murphy Funeral Home, 1102 W. Broad St, Falls Church, VA. Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m., followed by a graveside service at 1:00 p.m. at Oakwood Cemetery, 401 N. Roosevelt St, Falls Church, VA.
She will be deeply missed, but her love and spirit will live on in every shared memory and family tradition.
