

Mrs. Gowin was born in Wallace, N.C. In 1948 she moved to Northern Virginia where she worked in banking for 19 years. In 1984 she moved to Fredericksburg and served as the Innkeeper at Richard Johnson Inn until her retirement in 1992.
Mrs. Gowin was a member of Spotswood Baptist Church where she participated in Sunday school class and was a member of Primetimes. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society and was an avid gardener.
Survivors include her three children, Belinda Gowin Payton, the Rev. Dennis Lewis Gowin, and the Rev. Kenneth Neal Gowin; brother, Clarence B. Register; four grandchildren, Steven B. Jones, Christian N. Gowin, Joseph B. Payton and Kenneth A. Payton; and three great-grandchildren, Elijah N. Gowin, Eliana I. Gowin and Gryffin B. Jones.
Mrs. Gowin was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Tucker Gowin; brothers, Walter C. Register Jr., James Edward Register and Rev. Henry Lee Register; and a granddaughter Teresa Faye "Tracy" Jones.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 15, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 16 at Spotswood Baptist Church with the Rev. Kenneth Gowin and the Rev. Gene Willis officiating. Interment will be private.
