George William Dabrowski passed away at the age of 71 at his home in Orlando, Florida on November 14, 2017. George was born on October 8, 1946 in Washingon D.C. to Jesse Nell Fuller Dabrowski and John Anthony Dabrowski.
He spent a happy childhood in Kensington, MD where he and his family were very active in school, church, sports, and the community.
“Big George”, as he was known to many, was passionate about and proud of his family, his service in the United States Marine Corps, his career with the Federal Aviation Administration, and the Washington Redskins.
George gave six years of his life to the United States Marine Corps, serving as a Staff Sergeant aboard a Sea Knight cargo helicopter. He flew on many combat missions in Vietnam and returned home with a Purple Heart.
While he enjoyed a 30-year-long career with the FAA, George was often found volunteering, and donated his time well into retirement. Some of his most notable projects included serving as traffic director for Ashburn United Methodist Church, football announcer for Broad Run High School, airlift coordinator for the Special Olympics, and Santa Claus at many schools and churches.
He received too many recognitions to list, but he was more often on the giving end of the award. George made sure that everyone who deserved a trophy received one, whether it was for participating in a small-town Christmas parade or getting first place in a three-legged race at the annual Fuller family reunion.
He is survived by his wife Carol Holmes Kirtley Dabrowski, son Michael Dabrowski, son-in-law Tim Blunk; daughter Deborah Dabrowski Aiken, son-in-law James Aiken, three grandchildren, Amy, Kristen, and Sean Aiken; his sister Joan Dabrowski Goldberg, brother-in-law Murrell Goldberg; and many loving cousins.
A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, April 4 at 7:00 PM at National Funeral Home 7482 Lee Highway Falls Church, VA 22042. A military service will be held at his final resting place, Arlington National Cemetery, on Thursday, April 5 at 11:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Special Olympics in honor of George.
