Early in his career, Gilbert worked for the British Foreign Office, and during his service he was posted to the British Embassy in Washington, D.C. After his term with the Embassy was up, Gilbert decided to make the US his home, where he resided until his death.
He is survived by his wife, Ann; daughters, Tracey and Rachael; and his grandchildren, Ashley and Erin. He will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him.
