

On Monday, May 6, 2013, G. Ray Worley, age 84, born to Bessie and Gilbert Frazier Worley passed away. Raised in Dunn Loring, VA, he attended Fairfax High School and American University. After seminary studies in Texas and New Jersey, he worked with Christian education programs and prison ministries in Texas. He also earned a Ph.D from Florida State University in Adult Education. He served as President of the Dunn Loring Improvement Association, Inc., and in 2008, Fairfax County Public Schools education, dedicating a community meeting room in his honor at Dunn Loring Center. He also served as a member of the Adult and Community Education Advisory Committee, presiding as its chair for most of his 29 year tenure on the committee. The Washington Post and Fairfax Federation of Civic Association recognized him as Fairfax County Citizen of the Year in 2004, citing his advocacy for adult education.
He is survived by his wife, Estella Worley; son G. Ray Worley, II and wife LeAnne, children Taylor, Joshua, and Hannah; daughter Bess Worley II and husband Scott Amman, children Clara and Joseph; a sister, Brownie Plaugher; sister-in-law, Joann Worley; brother-in-law, Robert Nolan, and an extended family, of nieces; nephews; great and great-greats, cousins, family friends, and neighbors in Dunn Loring.
The family will be receiving friends at the Murphy Falls Church Funeral Home, 1102 W. Broad St., (Rt. 7) on Friday, May 10, from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, 10:30 a.m. at Columbia Baptist Church, 103 West Columbia Street, Falls Church, VA 22046. Interment National Memorial Park. Reception to follow at the Grand Atrium, 2236 Gallows Rd., Vienna, VA, 703-698-0228.
