

Harriet Ellen Hunt of Ashburn, Virginia passed away on March 5, 2025. She was born in Washington, DC on July 13, 1940, to Edwin and Dorothy Hoffman Hunter. Her father was a senior examiner with the US Patent Office and her mother was a homemaker and piano teacher.
Harriet attended school in Falls Church, graduating from Falls Church High School in 1958. She attended the College of William and Mary before leaving school to marry James H. Richberg in 1959. They settled in Falls Church where their family grew to include 3 sons. She returned to college, graduating from the George Mason campus of the University of Viginia. When her youngest son started school, she started 15 years work as a secretary at Knox Presbyterian Church in Falls Church.
Several years after she and Jim divorced, she met Donald Hunt and they married in 1980. They remained in Falls Church for 30 years before moving to Ashby Ponds in Ashburn, Virginia. Together, they enjoyed traveling to many places around the world. In addition to international travel, she and Don enjoyed historical and birding trips throughout the US, as well as travel for genealogy research and gatherings. She and Don also enjoyed day trips to events around the DC area with both Ashby Ponds and with the Loudoun County Senior Center. She volunteered for several organizations, including Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore facility in Leesburg, Virginia and at Colvin Run Mill in Fairfax County.
A social butterfly, Harriet had an extensive network of friends extending from her childhood through her involvement with the many groups and organizations she joined. Those organizations included the Eastern Star, Daughters of the American Revolution, Colonial Dames of the 17th Century and United Daughters of the Confederacy. A lifelong musician, she sang in the Loudoun Chorale until shortly before her death, and she was active in the Chimes handbell group and the Songbirds women’s choir at Ashby Ponds.
Besides her parents, Harriet is preceded in death by her aunts Ethel Hoffman and Beatrice Stryzak and her two beloved granddaughters, Emily Anne Richberg and Darla Ellen Richberg.
She is survived by her husband Don of Ashburn, Virginia, her sons James (Jennifer) of Leesburg, Virginia, Edwin (Connie) of Vero Beach, Florida, and Michael (Alyssa) of Morrisville, North Carolina; her grandchildren Julia Allen (Cody), Alexander Richberg (Amanda), Christopher Richberg, Vanya Dill and Katya Dill. She is also survived by Richard Min (Darla Richberg’s fiancé) and her stepsons Christopher Hunt and Nicholas Hunt.
A memorial service will be held at Galilee United Methodist Church in Sterling, Virginia, on March 28, 2025, at 2:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Habitat for Humanity.
