Ira was born in Brooklyn, NY to Sylvia Leckner on February 13, 1936. He moved to Maryland in the early 1950’s and attended Montgomery Blair High School in Silver Spring. He married his long time love Ruth Leckner on October 6, 1956 in Washington D.C at the young age of 20. They lived an incredible life together in Rockville. Ira enjoyed a successful career as a kitchen cabinet salesman for L-CO Cabinet Corporation and many other companies for 50 plus years.
Ira is preceded in death by his loving mother, Sylvia Leckner and older brother, Morton Leckner.
His greatest joy in life was his beautiful wife and soulmate Ruthie, for 64 years, and becoming a father to his sons Paul and daughter-in-law Olivia and Howard. And later in life he was promoted to his favorite role “Grandpa” to his grandchildren Joshua, Samuel, Michele, and Michael.
He exuded happiness and was loved by everyone who knew him. He was also an avid Washington Redskins football fan and season ticket holder for over 50 years. Looked forward to every season and even attended multiple Super Bowls.
In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America. The family of Ira Leckner wishes to extend our sincere thanks and appreciation to all of the doctor’s and caregivers from Family and Nursing for the excellent care they provided over the last year.
