Jim was born in New York City. He resided in New York, New Jersey, Ohio, California, and Oregon before moving to Falls Church in 2014.
He was preceded in death by his mother Edith. He is survived by his wife Pat, sister Jacqueline Dembek and niece Jennifer and father-in-law John Alford.
He started working at Pan American Airways while still in high school. After leaving Pan Am he spent many years working in sales and air freight forwarding. He later switched careers to become a tour operator. He often said he went from transporting packages to moving people.
Jim loved to travel. He enjoyed visiting new places and trying new places to eat. Souvenirs from his trips usually included bottles of wine and boxes of sweets so he could share part of the trip with family and friends.
Jim enjoyed attending live events. He started attending Broadway shows when he was a young man. He continued attending shows throughout his life until his last show in September of 2019. He would enjoy a symphony as much as a rock concert or a football game.
Jim took his journey with cancer in stride and with a positive attitude. He never complained or questioned why he had to face this battle. As with the other challenges in his life he simply moved forward.
Private services will be held later.
In lieu of flowers contributions can be made in his name to Life with Cancer. This special place made this journey easier to manage. Another way to remember Jim is to have a drink or a nice meal and think of him.
He will be missed by his family and friends who looked forward to his funny stories.
