James Thomas “Jim” White passed away peacefully June 30, 2019 at his home in Falls Church, Virginia, after battling cancer. He was 79. Jim was born on April 5, 1940 in Washington, DC to the late Elmer Joseph and Hester Hatcher White. Jim’s early years were spent in Takoma Park, Maryland. A cherished part of his childhood was time spent during summers at his family’s cottage in Woodland Beach, Maryland on the South River. It was there that he first explored what would become his lifelong love of fishing and the water. His family relocated to Edgewater, Maryland, when he was a sophomore in high school and he graduated in 1958 from Annapolis Senior High School. Immediately following his high school graduation, Jim volunteered to serve in the Marine Corps, where he served his Country for three years until his honorable discharge. Just a few years later, at the age of 24, the next great chapter of his life began when he married the love of his life, Mary Catherine Chaconas. Jim and Mary would share 50 years together before her passing five years ago and raised five children together in Falls Church. In addition to a successful business as real estate investors that Jim and Mary built together, Jim founded and operated WW Plumbing for over 40 years a successful commercial plumbing company. Jim always enjoyed spending time with family and time on the water. He had a much loved vacation property on the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland and would often steal off there for some fishing. He especially loved when his family joined him. As much as Jim loved his children, he especially loved being a grandfather to his seven grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Jim is predeceased by his wife, Mary C. White; his sister, Janice White Myers: his brother-in-law Laymon Myers; his brother, John Hatcher White; his daughter, Mary C. Barkes; and his favorite granddaughter, Emily Barkes. Jim is survived by three daughters, Jane “Janie” M. White of Virginia Beach, VA, Melissa “Missy” White Sisson of Falls Church and Amy Joy Chadwick of Charlotte, NC; a son, Jimmy Joe White of Falls Church; a son-in-law, Jerry Chadwick of Charlotte, NC; six grandchildren, Jerry Chadwick, Jr., Jeffrey Chadwick, and Samantha Chadwick, all of Charlotte, NC, Izabella Sisson and Jake Sisson of Falls Church and Sarah Barkes of Fort Walton Beach, FL; and a brother and sister-in-law, Joseph R. and Lois White of Kill Devil Hills, NC and his sister-in-law, Patricia White. He also had many nieces and nephews that he loved. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2019 at 1:00 pm at Murphy Funeral Home in Falls Church. A visitation will be held on Friday July, 12, 2019 from 6 to 8 PM. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to WoundedWarriorProject.org, a charity of great importance to Jim.
