

John Michael Engel, Jr. (“Jack”), a longtime resident of Mount Rainier, Maryland, and most recently of Waynesboro, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 3, 2017, at The Leland of Laurel Run in Waynesboro, Pennsylvania, with many members of his family by his side.
Jack was preceded in death by his beloved wife, the late-Juliet Ann (Johnson) Engel, and by his beloved daughter, Mary Gerard Engel. A loving brother, husband, father, and grandfather, Jack is survived by his sister Mary Ann (Engel) Beesley; his sons Anthony, John, Nicholas, Christopher, Robert, and Joseph; his daughters Elizabeth and Mary; his grandchildren Danny, Gregory, Kaliroi, Demetri, Vencient, Michael, Theresa, Shawn, David, Luca, and Levi; and by many more great grandchildren.
Jack was born in Chicago, Illinois to the late-John Michael Engel, Jr. and Florence M. (Lindsay) Engel on September 27, 1928. Jack proudly served his Country as member of the United States Army during the Korean War, from 1951-1955, and he was honorably released from Active Duty after having achieved the Grade of Specialist Second Class. Following his service to his Country, Jack was a devoted teacher and then for the rest of his career a longtime dedicated civil servant in the U.S. Department of Defense and other Agencies of the Federal Government.
An avid gardener, outdoorsman, and sports lover, Jack will always be remembered for his lush gardens, his many camping trips with his children, and his love of baseball both as a coach of his two oldest sons and as a fan of the Washington Senators, Baltimore Orioles, and Washington Nationals.
