The family is saddened to announce that Kevin John Brady passed away on November 16, 2018 after a brave battle with thyroid cancer. He was surrounded by his family and friends. Kevin centered his life around what truly mattered to him; his family and his friends. He attacked each passion with zest: running, cooking, biking, Sumi-e painting, Tai Chi, the list goes on. Kevin John Brady was born on October 8, 1947 to John and Josephine (Mata) Brady in Jersey City, NJ. He attended Saint Peter’s Preparatory School where he studied the classics, before graduating to higher education. Kevin spent four years at Boston College where he made lifelong friends and lettered in varsity track. He graduated magna cum laude with an English degree. He went on to Tufts University for his master’s degree and Ph.D. in eighteenth-century French theatre. Upon receiving his Ph.D., Kevin decided to take his love of teaching abroad when he joined the Peace Corps. He spent two years in Ghana as a sports organizer, track coach, and English teacher. While there, he discovered peanut soup and formed a lifelong distaste for the Beach Boys Christmas album. When he returned to the United States, Kevin moved to Virginia and taught writing and literature classes at American University, George Mason University, and Marymount University. He was also the theatre director for Marymount University. While directing “Blithe Spirit” he met Teresa Dreyfus in 1985. Kevin and Teresa were married on May 23, 1987 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. One year later, on May 30, 1988, they welcomed their first child, Daniel John into the world. Four years later on March 28, their daughter Bridget Blythe joined the family. The four Bradys enjoyed countless adventures together, especially the well-remembered “death marches” around the world, including France and Cape May, NJ. Kevin and Teresa completed the ultimate march: hiking up Mount Fuji in Japan to meet the sunrise in 2015. Kevin also coached his children’s t-ball, basketball, and soccer teams. They enjoyed lots of good food and great laughs along the way. Kevin transitioned his career to computer science where he remained until he marched forth into retirement on March 4, 2012. After retirement, however, he combined his love of teaching with his passion for cooking. He became a member of the United States Personal Chef Association and started his personal chef business: Chef du Jour. He also began teaching cooking classes for adults though Adult Continuing Education (ACE) and young adults through the Jewish Community Center. He loved to share his enthusiasm of food and cooking with all his students. Kevin enjoyed his retirement to the utmost, writing daily Haiku, playing in the Ponce de Leon Baseball league (geezer baseball), biking, hiking, and cooking every day. Even more he enjoyed spending time with his beloved wife, Teresa, and watching his children grow up. He never stopped bragging about what they were up to on Long Island, in Chicago, New Jersey, Belgium or wherever the wind took them. In addition to the USPCA, Kevin was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and Sons of Italy. Kevin is survived by his wife, Teresa, his children; Daniel and Blythe, and daughter-in-law, Tracy. The family would like to thank all of Kevin’s friends who were with him throughout life and to the end, and to assure all of them that March 4th celebrations will continue as scheduled. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Kevin’s name to:
