On August 29, 2023, Lien Ngoc Phung passed away peacefully at the age of 90. Lien was born March 2, 1933 in Beihai, China. When she was three years old, she moved to Vietnam with her brother Trung and mother Lam Q Anh, where she spent the remainder of her childhood and adult years. Lien went on to have two children, Tony and Kiet. They escaped to Malaysia a year after the Vietnam War ended and stayed as refugees. After 5 months they received US sponsorship from her godsister. She then came to America in 1977 where she found her new start with her sons. Lien lived a full life in Virginia as a caring mother, grandmother, and friend. She loved to garden, was an avid mahjong player, and devout Buddhist. Lien was strong willed and stubborn at times, but she also had an enormous heart, and cared deeply for her family and Buddhist temple. She is survived by her son Tony Phung (Amanda), younger brother Trung and her three grandchildren Ashley, Jonathan, and Lesley Phung. She was predeceased by her son Kiet. Lien will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts. A celebration of her life will be held at National Funeral Home at 7482 Lee Hwy, Falls Church, VA 22042, on Saturday, September 09, 2023 beginning at 9AM-11AM for the viewing and 11AM-1PM for the service.
