Lorie Jeanette Satterfield Baxter Gunter

Lorie Gunter passed away on July 5, 2019. She was born on April 8, 1919, in Washington, DC. She was preceded in death by her mother Martha Hutson Satterfield, father Samuel Satterfield, 12 brothers and sisters, sons Roger Baxter and Calvin Douglas Gunter. She is survived by her son Warner Baxter of Manassas, Virginia and daughters Lois (Albert) Benfield of Lakeland, Florida, Cynthia Gunter of Manassas, Virginia and Donna (Randy) Newman of Grottes, Virginia. Lorie had 10 grandchildren, Brian Baxter of Virginia, Cheryl Nunley of West Virginia, Michael (Tonia) Benfield and Kimberly (Matthew) Sumpter of Virginia, Patricia and Brenda Baxter of Maryland, Kris (Meghan) Baxter of North Carolina, Crystal Taylor, Jessica Newman and Amanda Newman of Virginia. Lorie had 22 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren. Lorie was married to Horace Baxter until his death in 1947. She married Calvin Gunter in 1948. They were married until his death in 1975. Lorie lived most of her life in Virginia. She was a homemaker and a wonderful mother. She was loved by everyone who knew her. Lorie was a founding member of First Community Church in Fairfax, Virginia, where she was very active until later in life when it became hard for her to get around. She taught Sunday School, worked in the Daycare, sang in the choir and in a quartet. She loved Southern Gospel music and enjoyed going to concerts. A celebration of life for Lorie will be held at National Funeral Home, 7482 Lee Highway, Falls Church, VA 22042, on Wednesday, July 10, 2019 at 11 am. She will be laid to rest at National Memorial Park.
